Spring 2009 Trendspotting: Statement Necklaces

To paraphrase the popular country song, I was country when country wasn't cool, I have loved bold necklaces before it was, well; "It." The good news is that with a statement necklace you can keep the rest of your palette simple so no need to fret over what to wear, this will be your signature piece. The bad news is, the neckwear that I lust after seems to cost an arm and a leg! But if you are willing and want to try the splurge and steal versions of the trend, you have come to the right place.

Remember: Take your body frame into account. If you are petite, look for a necklace that is not too overwhelming. Also, if you have a short neck, opt for longer layered necklaces to elongate your body, you don't want to look like you are choking!

The cheapest way to try this trend is to shop at retailers like Forever 21, Kohls and Chico's. Yes I said Chico's, they have great jewelry.

Metal discs drop necklace $10.80 @ Forever 21

Also, I like to buy in multiples and layer the necklaces. I would buy three of these and just pile them on top of one another, you can also create great contrast by choosing two different colors if they are available.

Great on their own, but I love to buy two or three of these type pieces to emulate one necklace. AND they are cheap!

Kohls Silver tone beaded necklace $9.38 (on sale!); Floral bead necklace $4.80 @ Forever 21
