All Day Sucker

Aaah, Tyra you little minx, your aim to suck me in is working. Just found out that one of the 14 contestants who will compete on the new season of America's Next Top Model is a transsexual. Aspiring model Isis, who I saw previously on a documentary about transgender youth and who also appeared in a shoot from last season says that she identifies as "a woman born physically male."

GLAAD president, Neil Giuliano praises the decision and states, “We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible.”

I'm officially intrigued.

Yay or Nay: Mantyhose?!

I did not make this up, people. Apparently mantyhose, i.e. pantyhose for men is on the rise in Europe and not just for the men who wear them under their slacks but also with shorts. There is even a website dedicated to "accelerate the acceptance of male pantyhose as a regular clothing item." (I think that Hanes smells a new sucker consumer.)

The visual of my boyfriend wearing mantyhose would be too much for my psyche to bear and would be grounds for immediate termination and grounds to sue for cruel and unusual punishment. No matter how the marketing machine wants to promote mens pantyhose as comfortable and accepted, it is not unless you are part of the of the community theater production of To Wong Foo or you do a fierce Liza Minelli once a week at the Male Box.

I'm just sayin.....

Here is the promo pic for the 11th cycle of America's Next Top Model:

The new season begins Wednesday, September 3rd. Check out Miss Jay

There is the hoopla surrounding Beyonce's skin lightening L'Oreal ads but someone needs to be taken to task for this Photoshop job of Tyra's body. This is the Sports Illustrated Tyra not the "my clothes are too tight" REAL Tyra as seen on her talk show.

Also, since this is the 11th season, where are the other 10 Top Models now? I don't think that there is alot of top modelling going on. I don't know if I've ever seen any of the winners again after the My Life As A Covergirl commercials besides Eva Pigford.

Fall Fashion Trend: Plaid

Ever since I saw Katie Holmes wearing these pants last year, I have wanted a little plaid in my life. Plaid is one of the trends for fall and it seems everyone is going mad for plaid. If you are more conservative you can have one plaid item as your focal piece, those who want to up the style quotient may want to mix patterns and textures to make it more interesting.

Bebe clutch; Zooey top; Thakoon dress; Forever 21 skirt; Liz Claiborne belted jacket; Banana Republic skirt; L.A.M.B. wool clutch; L.A.M.B. high waist skirt; Gap trouser; Forever 21 skirt

I recall being in the sixth grade wearing my yellow black and red plaid shirt, yellow jeans and red round earrings. A fashion maven, even then. Now all of those same things are "in" again!

Bleached Beyonce?

L'Oreal has denied lightening Beyonce's complexion to a whiter hue in it's new ad for Feria haircolor but she certainly looks....um...different to me. The New York Post deemed that the "digital lightening" made her "virtually unrecognisable". The company said in a statement "We highly value our relationship with Ms Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L'Oreal Paris altered Ms Knowles' features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color." Beyonce has been a L'Oreal spokesperson since 2001.

Previous ads and the "questionable" ad (Seen at TMZ)

You be the judge, do you believe that L'Oreal bleached Beyonce's complexion?

More importantly, how do you promote hair dye in a lace front wig?! I'm just sayin.......

Outstanding Obamas!

Tyra Banks poses as Michelle Obama in the White House with a Barack lookalike in the September issue of Harper's Bazaar. The issue is available on newsstands August 19th.

Michelle Obama graces the cover of Ebony magazine for its September issue, available August 12th. (Wow, this will make twice that I have bought Ebony in the last 5 years, I bought the August issue '25 Coolest Brothers Of All Time’ with Jay-Z on the cover. Way to go Ebony!)

The Obama family poses for the September issue of Essence and discuss family life, campaign attacks and the American dream.

I got style props from my friend Candy over at Candy's Rayne.

Yay or Nay: Tights with peep toes

I haven't seen a lot of this in the "real world" but I like this look. The key is choosing shoes that are appropriate to pull off the look, nothing too delicate or summery. You can keep the look sleek by using tights and shoes of the same hue or bring in fun by choosing colored tights or patterns.

1. Falke semi-opaque tights, net-a-porter 2. BCBG heels, piperlime 3. Peep toe platform, newport news 4. Solid opaque tights, j. crew 5. Guiseppe Zanotti peep toe, bluefly 6. Hue tights, hue

Don't Be THAT Woman!

Nothing is more pathetic than a woman of advanced years dressing younger than her age. You've seen them, the women shopping with their kids, with the conspicuously torn jeans, skyscraper stilettos, Nicole Ritchie sunglasses and halter tops hanging on for dear life whose faces are Botoxed all to hell. I prefer to grow old gracefully but still be fly so people will exclaim "You're HOW old?" and not "I thought so" because I'm trying too hard NOT to look older.

Here are a few Hollywood offenders:

Fashion doesn't have to have a lot of rules but if you think you're too old for it, you probably are. Keep up with the trends but make sure it fits your lifestyle and body type.

As the esteemed Simon Doonan says in the book Eccentric Glamour, "Say No to Ho"
