Celeb Style: Smocked dresses

Besides being a fiend for long flowy dresses, I also love the 70's inspired look of smock dresses. Here's a peek at how Eva Mendes, Nicole Richie and Sienna Miller do it:

Support the cause....

....and look good doing it! One of my co-workers was carrying this Feed the Children bag last week and I think that it is adorable. It makes a great tote, is very roomy and benefits the United Nations World Food Programme. My co-worker said that she was so inspired, she bought one for her mom and sister as well.

$59.95 @ Amazon; available only in the U.S. with free shipping

Anya Hindmarch, a London based designer is hoping to make it chic not to use plastic bags. Her "I'm not a plastic bag" reuseable totes debuted in the U.S. on June 20th for $15 but I believe they are sold out everywhere. They are limited to 2 per customer and are available at Fred Segal, Ron Herman and East Coast Whole Foods stores. If you know where I can snap one up (for less than the $200 that I saw it for on Ebay, let me know!)

Suiting Up

Alright ladies, it's that time of year again: Swimsuit season! Normally I do not even buy magazines off the rack in summer months becuause of the large number of swimsuit spreads and I have not bought a swimsuit since about 2002. Well that's about to change. After talk of an impending pool party, I am going to buy a new suit. And you know I couldn't leave you out. Here's some tips for finding the swimsuit that will keep you wading in the water all summer long:

If you are larger on top, make sure you have proper support. Look for underwire or a sculpted cup suit and tankinis provide great support.

For those with a tummy, try a suit with ruching or a wrap look.

Small busts should don a halter or triangle bikini tops and light padding.

Those who are larger on bottom can wear a wider strap top and a darker color bottom to balance the look.

My full figured ladies no longer have to be satisfied with matronly looks in order to be swimworthy, you can find great suits at Swimsuits Just For Us, which also sells suits for women who have undergone mastectomies. (Great idea!)

Check out some suits that could be right for you:

Victoria's Secret Bombay halter top ($18.99) and bottom ($13.99); Old Navy womens plus suit ($39.99)

Swimsuits Just For Us Nantucket two piece ($84); Spiegel shell embellished bandeau ($29)

Figleaves Blossom mother and child tankini ($49.80); J. Crew deep V padded tank ($72)

Bluefly Salinas swimwear ($60.00); BCBG crocheted cutout swimear ($138) @ Macy's

Betsy Johnson Hot Dot Brazilian skirted bottom ($90) and bikini top ($110) @ Nordstrom

Newport News backless halter suit ($20); Savanna underwire two piece tankini ($88) @ Swimsuits Just For Us

Spiegel zebra print bandeau suit ($39); Target Xhilaration pin dot gold swimwear ($14.99)

Miss Sixty Sweet Floral top ($80) and bottom ($48) @ Urban Outfitters

Model Tee

Look who is rocking the Signorelli tee I profiled last week:

Naomi at the OmniPeace by Signorelli launch in NYC

Here comes the bride

Target wedding checklist:

1. Register for gifts (check)
2. Thank you notes (check)
3. Buy wedding dress (huh?)

That's right, Target is further monopolizing the young and hip market by creating affordable wedding dresses for brides on a budget. Designed by Isaac Mizrahi, the Bridal Collection also features bridesmaids dresses, bridal accessories, (veils, gloves, and shoes) as well as tuxedos for the groom to be.

I for one would love to be able to buy a bridesmaid dress for under $50 (always a bridesmaid, etc...) but I don't know if I want to buy my wedding dress at the same place that I buy my toothpaste, ya know?

The collection is only available online and comes in extended sizes.

Green with Envy (and dresses!)

Nlight $99.95

Lezlie $99.95 (My fave!)

Lusta Cover $99.95

Lonna $109.95

Brytni $99.95

Hanging out, browsing the world wide web and what do I see? Green shoes! I have been searching for green heels every since I saw a pair at Bebe, wasn't fast enough on the purchase and they were sold out in my size. THEN I found them again, on Ebay and being the spendthrift that I am, tried to talk the seller down and after she agreed, SHE SOLD THEM! Soooooo anywho, I found a few pairs that look promising at Steve Madden. Oh yeah, and he sells dresses now. I know, THAT'S what I said too!

    Not so Basic Tees!

Want to make a statement without resorting to those crude "saying" tee shirts? Let a graphic tee say it for you with vivid detailing and lots of color. Here are a few that say it best without saying a word!
My heart belongs to this Joyce Big Heart print tee (Yes Style $18) (For Dee!)

Rock out with this Noble Decay rocker tee in blue/red (Couture Candy $98)

Deal of the Day: Rainbow Pill African woman tee (Yes Style $12)

    2 B Free fleur tank (Bluefly $37)

Tees with a conscious: This Omni tank created by Signorelli aims to eliminate poverty by 2025 and 100% of the proceeds benefits the Millenium Promise Fund. Thread Social's Limited Edition Glamour tee donates 30% of its profits to the Women in Need organization.

Go green with this cute recycling logo tee (Urban Outfitters $24)

My fave! (I think I ordered the very last one, it is no longer available but I ordered it this morning for $23 at Bluefly!)

    Style Verdict: Not much Bite

Me and some girlfriends found our way to the local Steve & Barry's to check out Sarah Jessica Parker's new clothing line Bitten. Although we loved the prices, much of it was uninspiring and the jeans/pants were not flattering AT ALL! I am a big fan of mixing high and low end pieces together or adding accessories to make a look pop but there were few things to work with. I came away with some cute tees and a grey dress that I can throw on for a super casual look (think lazy Sunday), yet me and the girls all agreed that it wasn't much to write home about. The one thing that we all bought were striped racer back tanks in different colors so I guess we'll look like a street gang the next time we all get together.

While I enjoy the concept of Bitten, making trendy clothing affordable for everyone, I would have liked to see more flash from SJP and truth be told, Target and H&M do it better. Affordable, fashion forward and still have money left over for some M.A.C. lipglass!

    Yea or Nay?

I attended a wedding over the weekend and I searched all over for a dress. I looked online, at the mall, visited small boutiques then ended up wearing an Anthropologie dress from my closet. While searching online, I came across the Limited Edition Talitha dress from J.Crew. At $450, it is way more than I am willing to pay but I like the colors. What do you say, is this totally not your style or would you wear this in a heatbeat? (Barring the price tag!)

    My (blog) Vacation

Haven't had a lot of time for Fashion nette-work Files, the call of full time employment is keeping me busy, not to mention my laptop is on the blink! Hopefully, I will be able to replace the laptop this weekend but in the meantime, as I work on new posts, hit me up with any fashion questions you may have!

    Deja Vu

Well, I watched the last portion of the Miss Universe Pageant this weekend (in time to see Miss USA fall on her butt) and I KNEW that I had seen the dress that Miss Japan wore on a celeb somewhere but I could not think of who it was. Found out that this same frock was donned by The Big O at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party as well as the Miss Universe winner. So who wins the title of Best Dressed?
